Undergraduate students in Bloomington can choose to focus on Polish Studies courses through the Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures (SLAV) and the Russian and East European Institute (REEI). SLAV offers both a major and a minor with Polish tracks, while REEI offers a Polish Studies Minor.
BA in Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures (SLAV|32 cr)
The Slavic and East European Track to the BA in Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures affords students the choice of a Slavic language sequence, Polish included, with instruction through the second year. While completing the degree, students may continue Polish language studies through the fourth year and take courses on Polish literature in English translation. The Minor in Polish in the Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures can be approached as an exploration of Polish language, literature, culture, film and more.
The Minor requires completion of any 5 SLAV Polish courses at the 200-499 level.
Polish Studies Minor (REEI|18 cr)
The Russian and East European Institute's dedicated Polish Studies Minor exposes students to the subject through the lens of multiple academic disciplines. Minor students are required to take courses in three different departments, e.g., REEI, SLAV, History, Anthropology, Political Science, Comparative Literature, Folklore and Ethnomusicology, Geography, and International Studies.
