Study in Poland
Undergraduate Travelers
The Samuel and Alicja Fiszman Scholarship is open to any undergraduate student at Indiana University Bloomington who intends to pursue study in Poland on an IU-approved, credit-bearing overseas study program in Warsaw or Kraków. There are two types of scholarships: one for summer study abroad (up to $2,500) and the other for a semester or academic year stay (up to $5,000). Students are encouraged to apply even if study abroad plans are not yet finalized.
Both universities in Kraków and Warsaw offer many exciting programs for English speaking students. If you choose to study at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, for instance, you can take courses at the Centre for European Studies, one of the many programs in which students receive up to 13 credits per semester. In addition to Polish language, you can take other courses in Central European history and culture taught in English.
A completed application will consist of:
· a letter of application that identifies the intended program, explains the applicant’s interest in Polish Studies, and discusses how study abroad will contribute to the realization of the student’s goals;
· an unofficial IU transcript (PDF from One.iu.edu is acceptable);
· a letter of recommendation from a faculty member familiar with the student’s work. Note: The letter should be sent to the PSC directly from the faculty member. Letters transmitted via the applicant will not be accepted;
· a tentative budget (cost of program, airfare, accommodations, etc.) Applications will be reviewed by the PSC Fellowship Committee. An announcement of the winner will be made by the beginning of May. Application materials should be sent to the Polish Studies Center, at polish@iu.edu. Contact Colton Ames, Associate Director of PSC, at colames@iu.edu with any questions.
